Bourbon is perfect for many things — to pair with a nice cigar, to sip after dinner and now, it has even made its way into my shower. Before you even think that I’m swigging my favorite moonshine in the early a.m. hours, let me introduce you to my new found friend — Bourbon Bubbler Brown Sugar Body Scrub.
A brilliant creation from FarmHouse Fresh, a Texas-based company, this body scrub will leave your skin silky smooth. Once you open the jar, you will cozy up to the nostalgic scent of gingersnap and pecan — and won’t be able to keep out. Slather the scrub on and your skin will be awakened after the brown sugar exfoliates and the Kentucky whiskey and rice bran oil moisturizes.
This luscious scrub come in a 12-oz jar and is priced at $32.50. Available at FarmHouse Fresh and at select retail outlets.
With Father’s Day just around the corner, Dine Magazine brings you our favorites. This year’s theme — Dad on the go. Whether he’s traveling, driving or just can’t sit still, we think these will be a perfect fit.

It’s time to move beyond that bottle opener on his keychain, and treat him to something a bit more classy. This fun gadget is discreet and can be tucked away, yet still get the job done. The Wally, our favorite new bottle opener, is the size of a credit card and weighs just 1 1/2 ozs. Perfect for the golf course, the boat or a tailgating party, dad will always be prepared to enjoy his favorite beer wherever he may go. Available at The Spoon Sisters for $13.95.

I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for Asian food, what I’m not a fan of though is when some restaurants try to save money and buy those cheap chopsticks. The ones that just don’t break apart well, and you eat with the concern that a sliver in your tongue might result. Enter — Chopsticks to go. These portable chopsticks can fit right in your pocket. They are collapsible, eco-friendly and can be easily tucked away in the aluminum case. Cost is $16.90. Visit Korin to purchase these or any other number of Japanese specialty products.

He likes chocolate. He like his cognac. Why not combine the best of two worlds? These dark chocolate ganache pieces are infused with dad’s favorite liqueurs like the Cognac Truffle with Hennessy V.S. Cognac, the Port Wine Truffle with Sandeman Founders Reserve Porto and the Whiskey Truffle with Bowmore single malt Scotch whiskey. Any order over $50 qualifies for free shipping. Use code DAD. The 6-piece spirits box is $12.00 at Moonstruck Chocolates.

You will never have to go without your morning caffeine fix with the mypressi TWIST. This portable espresso machine is portable, convenient and can travel with you wherever you may go. It easy to use and requires no external power. Just pour in some hot water, and its time to enjoy. Use fresh ground coffee or a standard ESE pod. Cost is $169. Available on ThinkGeek.
You know the type – there are some people that the moment they step foot in the kitchen, everyone magically disappears. Is there hope for them? Or are they doomed for a life of eating of breakfast cereal and burnt toast?

We are moving away from highlighting the best chefs around to taking the worst of the worst, and teaching them the tricks of the trade. Starting January 3 on the Food Network, twelve chefs will divide into two teams and compete in a culinary bootcamp under the careful direction of Anne Burrell and the other led by Arizona chef Beau MacMillan. Each team member will learn kitchen techniques and apply these skills in weekly elimination rounds. In the end – they must prepare a 3-course meal for a team of food critics, who just happen to think it is Burrell and MacMillan preparing their tasty treats. The grand prize – a $25,000 cash prize – to use however they would like – perhaps to um, open their own restaurant. Well, we’ll see about that.
Will you schedule this humorous, disaster-filled show of culinary explorations into your Sunday night TV schedule? Or, is the Food Network going too far away from the real reason that you tune in?
Worst Cooks in America will premiere at 10:00 pm on January 3, on the Food Network.
While wine charms have their place, I think it’s always great to see a refreshing idea. These beautiful cocktail napkins will do their job (and let you keep track of your wine glass or your Coke or coffee) while still adding a unique touch to your table. They were designed by Carol Pulitzer of Butterfly & Co. and sell for only $18 (for a set of 6). Did you realize that they are actually numbers, but look like a piece of art? How Genius! They are a perfect hostess gift, too. In addition to cocktail napkins, Butterfly & Co. also offers guest towels, greeting cards and children and maternity tees.

I know we’re not a trade publication, but I read something recently that I found extremely interesting in Today’s Restaurant News. This was an excerpt from Howard Appell’s letter from the editor in the last issue, “I just heard a story about how during WWII sugar was being rationed and in short supply. Pepsi Cola was an upstart company and Coke was the main soft drink Company. Coke pulled back most of their advertising, thinking they could not deliver anyway. Pepsi on the other hand increased their advertising and when the war ended they became a major player over night because of the name recognition and the demand they had built up.”
This definitely made me think. As many restaurants are struggling during the off season and because of the state of the economy, they often think that pulling advertising dollars is the answer. Is this the time to let things fall through the cracks, or is it time to step things up a bit and increase your share of the market? Definitely, a thought to ponder.
