Bova is about to transform the Versace Mansion according to the Miami Herald. That’s right, it is about to become Ocean Drive’s newest nightclub. From being an exclusive destination where only  the privileged could walk through the doors (memberships were $35,000) to having to pay for tours of the property ($65) to the place to go for private parties, we’ve seen quite a few changes over the last year or two. Get ready to see some more. Just two weeks ago, Scott Rothstein bought a stake in the property and now with the help of his partner Tony Bova, they will be transforming the courtyards and rooms into Bova @ Casa Casuarina modeled after the Bova Restaurant chain.  An Italian restaurant is scheduled to open in two months.

Mixology with Joshua Liberman from Forte

Earlier this week, Dine Magazine’s Wine Club was invited to Forte Palm Beach to learn some secrets on how to mix the perfect cocktail.  Joshua Liberman shared some of his favorite recipes with our guests as we sampled these delicious concoctions. Cucumber Melon French 75, Elder Flower Gimlet, Blood Orange Negroni and Gin Gin Fizz were all on the menu

Here’s the recipe for the Pomegranate Kiss.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz PAMA liquor
  • 1 oz pom juice
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • Garnish with 3 rose petals

Directions -

  1. Combine all ingredients in a collins glass 3/4 full of ice.
  2. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass.
  3. Garnish with 3 rose petals.

Recipe used with permission from Joshua Liberman from Forte Palm Beach.

If you are looking for an outstanding drink menu in West Palm Beach, now is the time to check out Forte. In addition, they’ve just launched a reverse happy hour on Friday and Saturday nights. $3 domestic beers, $5 wells, $6 wines by the glass and $6 pizza. Visit Forte online for more information.

All Baseled Out? Follow me

You would think that with all of the “navigation” information that was available during the 7 days of Art Basel/Art Miami, any planning schedules, flyers, maps, etc. would be helpful, but you might be wrong.  Too much info can eventually be just as misleading as too little.  It was for me.

Note to self:  It’s about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, December 5th and I’m already all Baseled OUT, (My two desks are full of press releases, invitations, and magazines concerning this week’s exhibitions and parties. Out of curiosity I carried the tremendous heap of papers to my scale. I weighed myself with the bundle and then subtracted my own weight from the results.  As of today, I have accumulated 21 pounds of paper information. The Art Basel and Art Miami catalogues together, weigh a whopping 8 pounds this year.  Total paper weight so far… 29 pounds!) …and there are still 2 more days to go!

The week before it all began.

The anticipation I felt as Art Basel and Art Miami approached was exciting.  In preparation, I selected a series of nice outfits that I thought would be flattering for various outings. Checked the heels on my shoes, whipped out several cute little hand bags to go with the shoes, recharged my Sony and Nikon cameras, picked out some interesting handmade jewelry to add pizzazz to the dress wear, filled my truck with gas and got my roll of quarters ready for the meters.  Little did any of us anticipate the cold front that had night temperatures dipping into the high 40’s.  So much for my dress plans.  Out came the shawls, jackets and on one excursion, I wore my purple crocs and heavy blue socks. Who cares what I looked like…at least my feet were warm and comfy.

Friday, November 28th we aimed our car towards the SEAFAIR Mega yacht, Rock the Boat Champagne Gala reception that would precede the art filled week.  The luxury vessel was docked on the Intracoastal across from the newly renovated Fontainebleau. The yacht was stately, imposing and just waiting for partygoers. Sadly we arrived 24 hours too early.  The gala was slated for the 29th…

Old Chinese proverb:  One who does not read invitations carefully will miss the boat.
