A Visit to Wild Olives Cafe by Todd English

Just when a 3 course meal at a Todd English restaurant was exactly what I need to start my week, TasteCasting delivered my wish this past Monday.  For those of you that don’t know, the TasteCasting team is made up of a group of food bloggers, that upon invitation, go into select restaurant, receive a sampling of the restaurant’s food and in exchange blog about their experience.

Upon entering the restaurant and not knowing what quite to expect at my first TasteCasting, the restaurant was quiet. Charlie, our attentive waiter offered me a refreshing glass of prosecco right away and kept them coming throughout the evening. As our crowd of 7 fine food connoisseurs gathered and made introductions, our high-top tables were happily adorned with Fig & Prosciutto Flatbread, as well as a Crispy Eggplant Flatbread.

The Fig & Prosciutto Flatbread started with a sweet taste of fig jam and ended with the savory taste of prosciutto that did not disappoint. The crispy eggplant was anything but sweet, yet still packed the flavor of a mild eggplant and the punch of basil leaves.

Our first course started with the asparagus frites, lightly fried and topped with tangy arugula and honey mustard aioli, which gave the asparagus a smooth flavor.

The second course featured a tasty ‘Brooklyn Style’ Spaghetti Polpetinne with small meatballs, roasted tomato sauce and parmesan.

Butternut Squash Lasagna accompanied the spaghetti and offered a well-balanced sweetness between maple crème and herbed ricotta.

Course number three offered a wasabi-crusted Tuna, cooked to order by my preference. The tuna lay atop a ginger-carrot glaze which offset the spicy wasabi and cracked pepper flavors embedded in the crust.

My personal highlight of the evening was the organic brick over Roasted Chicken cooked to perfection with a porcini crust and roasted garlic glaze. The roasted chicken sat on top of a potato cake, green beans with bacon. One bite of each of made a perfect tasting that left me full through lunch the next day.
