While you are making your plans this weekend, do remember that Daniel Boulud will be at Cafe Boulud this Saturday for a book signing from noon until 2:00 pm. He will be on hand to sign any of his cookbooks and add a little cheer to your Saturday afternoon. In order to raise the excitement for his visit, I thought that I’d give you a look at one of his cookbooks. (All of his cookbooks will be on sale on Saturday.)
Braise, is Daniel Boulud’s guide to braising and offers recipes from around the world. The recipes reach out to cooks at every skill level and include braises from meat to fish to vegetables. What does it mean to “braise” something? Braising is moist heat cooking where a small amount of liquid is cooked along with the food in a closed container over long periods of time resulting in rich, aromatic flavors.

For those of you who have been following Dine, you must surely remember the issue with Daniel Boulud on the cover. The day we did that shoot, we stole Daniel away for nearly 8 hours – only to have him prepare for a very important SOS (Share Our Strength) dinner at Cafe Boulud that night. Looking back, it was a pretty amazing day, but Daniel was up for the challenge. It just goes to show you what an amazing person and an amazing chef this Daniel Boulud is.
So I was excited to hear the news that Daniel Boulud is coming back to town. He will be hosting a “Happy New Year” book signing at Cafe Boulud on Thursday, January 8th Saturday, January 10th from 12 – 2pm and everyone is invited to attend. Daniel will be available to sign any one of his six cookbooks. In addition, complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served to those in attendance.
Daniel Boulud never ceases to amaze me, so it was no surprise to learn about the opening of his new restaurant, Maison Boulud a Pekin in Beijing. Located at the heart of the Legation Quarter in the former American Embassy building, Daniel brings to China the flavors of his French cuisine. The restaurant will have a vibrant and contemporary feel to it and will offer impeccable service that Daniel Boulud’s restaurants are known for. The layout of the restaurant resembles that of a private manor with a luxurious French feel to it. It also boasts a separate cocktail and lounge area.
Although the menu is not posted yet, Daniel states that he will stay true to his French roots, but bring in local Chinese ingredients. Ignace Lecleir, who has managed Daniel’s renowned restaurant DANIEL in New York City, will be the General Manager. Executive Chef Brian Reimer also comes to Maison Boulud from DANIEL in NYC. Maison Boulud is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.
Maison Boulud is located at 23 Qian Men Dong Da Jie | 100006 Beijing China. Phone +86(10) 6559 9200
